The Best Book I Read this Summer

My favorite book I read this summer was a book called First they Killed my Father. It was a nonfiction retelling of a five year old girls life in Cambodia. It is a story of a girl named Loung and her familiy when soldiers make them leave there village and work in camps. They are taken from their homes and forced to grow crops and serve Angkar the leader. The story is about her life in the camps as their family is separated, and how the people around them starve to death from the decreasing food rations. She talks about her hunger how she always thinks and dreams about food, and what she gets is never enough. Loung retells the story of how they all separate to keep there lives. She fights as a child soldier and all she thinks about is staying alive for another day. First they Killed my Father is and amazing and heartbreaking story of a five year old girls life in Cambodia. The things she sees and the people she loses, and how she never gives up and she keeps on going and fighting for her life. This book is facsinating and compelling and I would definetly recommend it for people who like action, drama, suspense, and nonfiction. This book is not for everybody, it is very sad and harsh, it is a very real and graphic story so not everyone would like it, but it is a very emotional and deep story that I found hard to put down.
